The organized unit of United Methodist Women in Faith shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Our Women in Faith currently meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month, except July and August. Meetings start at 1:30 pm in Fellowship Hall.
The meetings and programs are shared by the leadership team. We welcome anyone who would like to share.
We are transforming the world through Christian love by our service and donations to our local church, WIF Conference, Envision, Life Stories, Greeley Family House, A Woman’s Place, and The Greeley Clothing Bank. We also continue to fund a scholarship through Aims Community College.
Sewing for Service was first organized in 1988. We meet every Wednesday afternoon (except in the summertime) in the sunlight rooms on the third floor of the church from 1 to 3 pm. Volunteers are needed at every step of the quilt making process. No skill required. Come join us.
We make a variety of quilts in all sizes – from crib to queen size – and in all colors. More than 100 quilts are donated each year to community organizations. Every child in a new Habitat home receives quilt at the dedication of their forever home. Veterans, Life Stories, and other organizations also receive quilts. Almost all the fabric and thread that we use is donated by church and community members. In November a quilt sale is held to raise money to buy the batting for inside the quilts, and to pay for sewing machine repair and service.
With the support of our congregation and the Women In Faith (formerly UMW), our church has been involved in a prayer shawl ministry since 2007
Do you know someone who might benefit from the comfort a shawl can provide?
During illness or recovery
Medical procedures - Loss of a loved one
Marriage - Birth or adoption of a child
Just to say ‘I love you and Jesus loves you’
The shawls are kept in the office. If you would like to gift one, select the shawl you like and write the date and the name of the recipient in the small registry book. Each shawl has a card attached with a Prayer Poem on it.
May this shawl be a sign of God’s
loving, healing presence.
May it warm you
when you are weary.
May it encourage you
when you are discouraged.
May it assure you of God’s
care and comfort.
May it remind you that you are
surrounded by the prayers of others.
If you want to make shawls for this project, there are simple directions for knitting a shawl in the rack in the church hallway, but there are no rules for making a shawl. They can be knitted, crocheted, sewn, woven, quilted, or simply cut from fabric such as fleece and embellished. Once a shawl has been completed, please take it to the church office to have a tag added and be available for gifting.
